Sony will be delighted with the news that the PS3 has exceeded 3.8 million sales over the holiday period.

The sales were from the five weeks following the last week of November. Compared to the same time last year, the PS3 sales have increased by an impressive 76%.

Sony put down the sales success to "continued strong support from game developers and publishers around the world" and "highly anticipated and exciting game titles."

Sony hopes the sales trend will continue in 2010 with the release of God of War 3, Gran Turismo 5, MAG, Heavy Rain, ModNation Racers and Final Fantasy XIII.
